Example Scenario

Here’s a typical scenario for a Private Pilot applicant. Scenarios like this are crafted to provide a narrative for exploring the applicant’s knowledge of ACS subject areas.

This scenario puts the pilot near busy airspace (KPHX and KLAS Bravo), in an airplane at or near max gross weight, and in a scenario where external pressures may apply. Additional variables could come up in the course of the discussion (for example, an unexpected headwind at cruise, an extremely hot day, a diversion for a sick passenger to a dirt strip along the route, a loss of communications, etc.).

The applicant’s knowledge test deficiencies are noted under ACS codes in an appendix to the scenario document. These subject areas may be covered during the course of exploring the scenario, or as standalone items.
